Accessing the File System in Windows 7 ext2/ext3/ext4

For most users of the Linux operating system is no stranger to the existing file system in Linux, such as ext2, ext3, and ext4. Some system files are often found in any Linux, especially during installation.

Sometimes we have an interest to share files in the Linux file system, so that it can be read or written through the Windows operating system. Thus, no need to perform a restart the computer when it comes to accessing files on the file system ext2/ext3/ext4.

You can do this using an application called Ext2fsd.

The following installation steps in Windows 7:
    1. Download Ext2fsd.
    2. Right-click on the installer file that has been downloaded, and click

Properties. Set 'compatibility mode'to 'Windows Vista Service Pack 2' and
        activate option 'Run as administrator'.
    3. Run the installer file.
    4. Download the patch Ext2fsd to support ext4 extents.
    5. Extract the patch file you just downloaded, copy it ext2fsd.sys files into \

        Windows \ system32 \ drivers.
    6. Restart Windows 7.
    7. Run Ext2 Volume Manager from the Start Menu.

It would appear the new drive in Windows 7 you, and ready to be accessed. Good luck.
